Immerse yourself in history, art, and mediaeval traditions

Distance 4,5 km – Cesana Torinese is about 90 km from Turin and 10 km from the French border in the Upper Susa Valley. Perched at an altitude of 1,354 metres at the foot of Mont Chaberton, the town was a competition venue for the 2006 Turin Winter Olympics. One area of its historic centre surrounds the parish church, while the other winds along a pedestrian street lined with 19th-century buildings and stores. Cesana Torinese’s origins date back to the early Middle Ages–its hamlets and villages provide fascinating insight into its history, art, traditions, and rich cultural heritage. Moreover, Cesana Torinese is the starting point for various excursions to enjoy the mountain’s natural beauty and culture-rich mediaeval hamlets–we recommend Bousson and Thures.

A magical fortress on the side of the French Alps

Distance 25 km – Located 1,325 metres above sea level, Briançon is Europe’s second-highest city and one of the most pleasant locales in the entire French Alps. It rises from the valley where the Guisane and Cerveyrette rivers meet and has a quaint historic centre packed with small shops. The mediaeval city walls give the town a fortress-like appearance, and its casino is outfitted with slot machines, table games, a bar, a restaurant, and entertainment for anyone who’d like to try their luck one evening.

Explore the wildlife among forests, pastures, and grasslands

Distance 30 km – The Gran Bosco di Salbertrand Nature Park spans 3,775 hectares that soar from 1,000 metres above the valley floor to an altitude of 2,700 metres at the watershed with Val Chisone. It overlooks the municipalities of Chiomonte, Exilles, Oulx, Salbertrand, Sauze d’Oulx, Pragelato, and Usseaux. Established in 1980 to protect the lush vegetation, the park is 70% forest, while high-altitude pastures and grasslands comprise the remaining 30%. More than 600 surveyed plant species create a variety of environments with fauna that includes 80 species of nesting birds and 21 species of mammals, such as deer, roe deer, and chamois. There’s an Ecomuseum inside the park that you can visit with expert guides–the long, fascinating route runs between Salbertrand village and the protected area.

An adventure along the “Great Wall of Piedmont”

Distance 30 km – Fenestrelle Fort is also called the Great Wall of Piedmont due to its size and route, which lines the valley’s entire left flank.  It consists of three fortified complexes – San Carlo, Tre Denti, and Delle Valli – joined by a tunnel. The fort is home to Europe’s longest covered staircase, which comprises 4,000 steps. It also has a surface area of 1,350,000 square metres and a length of 3 km, spread over 650 metres of elevation.

An itinerary between elegance, architecture, and majesty

Distance 91 km – The elegant streets of Turin greet you with architectural majesty, starting from Mole Antonelliana, a landmark that houses the National Museum of Cinema, and then extending into its wide streets to reach the Po River. Admire sumptuous palaces, art galleries, sacred churches like the Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist with the Holy Shroud, the renowned Egyptian Museum, and the exquisite Sabauda Gallery. You can also find luxury shopping on Via Roma and authentic market experiences at Porta Palazzo and Balon.
